Mayan Community 9 de Enero

Comunidad Maya 9 De Enero is a community made up of low-income159 indigenous Mayan households located in Suchitepéquez, Guatemala. The community was established in 1996 as part of the peace accords when 96 internally displaced families were facilitated to obtain a mortgage to buy farmland from private-landowners. Most households are involved in small scale agriculture and/or work as day labor for commercial agricultural plantations
